Why IELTS? It has many advantages over TOEFL:

  IELTS가 TOEFL에 비해 더 나은 점은 무엇인가요?

 

1. IELTS is the Cambridge English Qualification. All of their educational models, courses and qualifications lead to this. Basically, on the Cambridge pathway, students start studying for IELTS in Grade 1. Continuing this course of study to its conclusion in Grade 11 makes enormous sense. Fortunately, we have been using Cambridge resources (Unlock) for several years now. TOEFL is just a test. There is no curriculum which prepares students for the test.
  IELTS는 캠브리지에서 개발한 영어 능력 인증 시험입니다. 캠브리지의 교육 모델, 코스 및 인증 능력은 모두 IELTS와 연결되어 있습니다. JIKS에서는 캠브리지 교육 과정을 따라가므로 학생들은 초등학교 1학년부터 IELTS 공부를 시작하는 셈이 됩니다. 이 코스를 11학년까지 꾸준히 이어가면서 학생들은 자연스럽게 캠브리지의 시험 방식에 익숙해지게 됩니다. 다행히 JIKS는 수년 동안 캠브리지 교재인 Unlock을 사용해 왔습니다. (따라서 캠브리지에서 개발한 시험을 보는 것이 더 편안할 수도 있는 상황입니다) TOEFL은 그저 시험에 불과합니다. 학생이 꾸준히 시험을 준비하는 교육 과정이란 것은 존재하지 않습니다.

 

2. IELTS is valid for life, so the same qualification can be used for university applications, then later in life for postgraduate study applications, years abroad, student and working visas. TOEFL is valid for only 2 years and needs to be repeated.
  IELTS 결과는 평생 유효합니다. 이 점수를 대학 지원뿐만 아니라 추후 외국 대학의 대학원 과정, 학생 비자 및 취업 비자 지원 시에도 활용할 수 있습니다. TOEFL은 2년 동안만 유효하므로 계속해서 재응시해야 합니다.

 

3. The content of the IELTS exam is based upon content that the students have studied at school. The TOEFL exam is based upon university subjects and university campus situations that the students have no experience of.
  IELTS 시험의 내용은 학생들이 학교에서 공부한 내용을 바탕으로 합니다. TOEFL 시험은 학생들이 경험해보지 못한 대학 과목 및 대학 캠퍼스 상황을 바탕으로 합니다.

 

4. The speaking part of the IELTS test is conducted live with a human being as a 15-minute conversation around a topic the students will be familiar with. TOEFL requires 30-45 second responses, about university-related content, to be spoken into a microphone and a computer. This is very unnatural and makes the test very difficult, even for the best of students.
  IELTS 시험의 말하기 부분은 학생들이 수업을 통해 익숙하게 느끼게 될 주제에 대해 15분 동안 대화를 하는 방식으로 시험관을 직접 대면하여 라이브로 진행됩니다. TOEFL 시험은 대학 관련 주제에 대해 30~45초 동안 컴퓨터에 대고 대답을 하는 방식입니다. 이는 매우 부자연스러울 뿐만 아니라 영어 실력이 대단히 뛰어난 학생들도 시험이 매우 어렵다고 느끼도록 만드는 요인입니다.

 

5. Both IELTS and TOEFL are accepted equally at South Korean and International Universities.
  IELTS 점수와 TOEFL 점수, 둘 다 한국이나 다른 나라 대학에서 인정됩니다.

 

6. Both exams have to be taken at external examination centres. They cost approximately the same price, set by the exam centre.
  두 시험 모두 외부 시험 센터를 통해 응시하게 됩니다. 두 시험의 응시료는 비슷한 수준이며, 응시료는 센터에서 정해집니다.

 

7. The lower-level Cambridge Assessment English exams are designed to follow the same format as IELTS. In time, students will be able to follow this system and be comfortable with the exam format by the time they arrive at IELTS. This should increase scores.
  낮은 단계의 캠브리지 영어 능력 인증 시험은 모두 IELTS와 동일한 형식으로 디자인되어 있습니다. 학생들이 캠브리지의 여러 단계 시험을 거쳐 IELTS 단계에 도달할 즈음에는 이미 시험 형식에 익숙해져 있게 되고, 이는 학생들이 좋은 점수를 받는 데 도움이 될 것입니다.

 

8. There is nothing to stop students continuing to take TOEFL, as many do now, and all of the skills in the new courses are transferable.
  TOEFL 시험을 계속해서 준비하고 싶다면 막을 이유는 전혀 없습니다. JIKS에서 시작하려는 새로운 코스에서 학생들이 익히게 될 다양한 스킬들은 다른 시험에도 적용될 수 있을 것입니다.
